Kiehl's Lip Balm #1

Long, long time ago, I went into Kiehl's to request for samples of the Midnight Recovery Serum. The nice girl that assisted me was so patient in answering all my questions so I kinda felt bad for not buying anything. I saw this lip balm nearby. I recognize it for appearing in countless magazines for being the best lip balm so I grabbed one. Got the original (no flavor) one because I wanted to try the original formula.

I opened it the as soon as I walked out of the Kiehl's store.
As soon as I put it on, I was like OMG WHAT IS THIS?

This is one of the products which I have high hopes for but it disappoints me so much..

Things that I dislike about this lip balm :

• The thing that I really dislike is the scent. It smells and taste like.. grease? Not that I lick the balm but you know, when you put on a lip balm, you can kinda taste it. It is a very strange smell for a balm. Makes me want to wipe it off as soon as I put it on.
• Secondly, the balm itself is a bit yellowy in color. When I squeeze it out, the oil comes out in liquid and gel form. It separates. It is a weird consistency.

• Thirdly, it is thin and extremely greasy. It feels quite uncomfortable on my lips sitting there doing nothing. Exactly what I feel like after I eat oily fried chicken.
• It kinda did nothing for my lips. Even though after it sinks in, I didn't feel much moisturizing action going on. The flakies on my lips are still firmly intact.
• It is gone so fast that I have to reapply very frequently. I kinda don't have the patience for that.
• The screw cap and the mouth of the tube is not user friendly. Besides having to screw off the cap, I have to carefully squeeze a dab onto my fingertips, smear it on my lips, then clean my fingers with a piece of tissue. I prefer a more simple cap mechanism and cleaner application method.

• The price tag! For RM29, I can think of many other cheaper lip balms that works better than this.

The only thing that I like about this lip balm :

• The shine is spectacular. It shines almost like a lip gloss..

OK enough ranting. Now, there are some questions going on in my head. 

Why is this lip balm so raved about?
Had the one I bought gone bad?
Maybe if I had got a good one, it will work differently?
What if I hate the smell because it has gone rancid?
If I choose the scented ones, would it be better because I heard a lot of people like the pear one?

Has any of you used this lip balm before? What is your experience with it? Please leave me a comment. If this balm is good, I don't mind applying it with my fingers. I really want this balm to work but my main gripe is the smell.
